Anthony’s miniature painting journey began during the COVID lockdowns. Like many people at the time, he was looking for a creative focus, so he picked up a brush and started painting miniatures. What began as a way to pass the time quickly became something he was completely absorbed in. He was fascinated by how much could be achieved on such a small scale, and painting soon became a continual process of learning and improving with every miniature.
Over the years, Anthony has become increasingly interested in light, colour, atmosphere and storytelling. Rather than focusing solely on painting a miniature well, he explores how light, contrast and the surrounding environment can work together to create mood and bring a model to life.
Competition painting has played a significant role in his development. Anthony has attended and received awards at Golden Demon, Iron Skull, Fen Model Show, Squidmar Open and the Miniature Painting Open, including winning Best of Show. He is proud of these achievements, but values the competitions just as much for the opportunity to meet talented painters, learn from the community and continually challenge himself.
Alongside APSMini_Painting, Anthony is the co-founder of Worn Bristle Studio, a brand built around developing painting tools that he and his co-founder genuinely wanted to use themselves. Teaching has also become an important part of his journey. He enjoys breaking down subjects such as light placement, volumes, contrast, colour and atmosphere, helping other painters understand not only how to achieve an effect, but why it works.
What began with picking up a brush during lockdown has taken Anthony further than he ever expected. He continues to learn and looks forward to seeing where miniature painting takes him next.
This two-day workshop will focus on developing a better understanding of light, volume, contrast and atmosphere, and how these elements can be used together to create more impactful miniatures.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Throughout the two days, Anthony will guide students through his approach to analysing a miniature before painting. This includes identifying the main volumes, choosing a light direction and deciding where highlights and shadows should be placed. From there, you’ll explore how to build contrast, colour and atmosphere, including the use of ambient and reflected light to help bring the miniature together. Alongside these concepts, you’ll work on practical techniques including brush control, paint consistency, layering, glazing and blending, with demonstrations and individual feedback throughout the two days.
The emphasis won’t be on rushing to finish a miniature. Instead, the aim is for students to understand why they are making each painting decision and leave with a process they can confidently apply to their own projects. By the end of the workshop, students should have a stronger understanding of how to interpret light, paint volumes, create atmosphere and use contrast to direct attention and tell a story through their miniatures.
Please note: All bookings are non-refundable. However, we are happy to reserve a spot for you in an alternative workshop of equal value if needed. If you have any questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
